In Nordvietnam werden die Felder traditionell mit Wasserbüffeln bearbeitet. Man bezeichnet diese Zusammenarbeit als BMW (Bauer mit Wasserbüffel). Die Reisfelder stehen im Allgemeinen unter Wasser. In dem Schlamm kann der Bauer nicht mit Maschinen arbeiten sondern muss mit seinem Wasserbüffel die Erde umpflügen.

In North Vietnam it is a custom to work with water buffalos in the fields. The rice fields are often under water. It is not possible to work with machines and therefore water buffalos are important helpers to plough up the soil.
